Set in the 1970s, this animated true story shares a humorous yet cautionary tale about the struggles of unemployment and the traps of fraudulent job scams. After receiving confusing exam results, the narrator was desperately looking for a way to earn a living. One day at the library, an attractive newspaper ad caught his eye: a salesman position in Colombo promising a highly lucrative daily wage.
Tempted by the prospect of a good income, he borrowed some money, sent the required money order, and traveled all the way to Bambalapitiya for the interview. Upon arrival, he met a group of other hopeful young men, all dressed up and holding the exact same address. However, as the group walked together to find the "company," they were led to an isolated, whitewashed structure that turned out to be a local cemetery. When they asked a passerby for directions, he confirmed that the address they were given indeed belonged to the graveyard. The harsh reality set in when another local informed them that just the previous week, a similar group of boys had arrived looking for the exact same interview. Realizing they had fallen victim to a scam exploiting desperate job seekers, the disappointed group had to return home empty-handed. The narrator reflects on how such cruel scams, preying on people's vulnerabilities, unfortunately, continue to exist in various forms even today.
